Asha and the Seed That Stayed Asleep
Chapter 1: Palm Tree
The seed in Asha’s palm was so small that she almost mistook it for a crumb.
“Will that really grow?” she asked.
Mama placed a flowerpot on the kitchen table.
“Let’s give it somewhere to begin.”
Outside, rain tapped against the window. Inside, the table was covered with newspaper, a little bag of soil, and one spoon that would need a very good wash afterward.
Asha scooped soil into the pot.
Some went into the pot.
Some went onto the newspaper.
A surprising amount went onto her sock.
“Plants are messy,” she decided.
