Daisy and the Empty Food Bowl

Chapter 1: Kindness gives peace

Once upon a time, there was a gentle dog named Daisy who had everything she needed. Her bowl was always full, and her bed was always warm.

One rainy afternoon, she watched her owner read an online post about a nearby animal shelter. In the pictures, several dogs waited beside their food bowls.

Daisy stared at the screen, then looked at her own bowl.

She picked up her favorite toy fish and dropped it into her owner’s shopping bag.

Her owner smiled. The next day, they took food, blankets, and toys to the shelter. Daisy came along in her carrier.

At first, she felt nervous. Then a small kitten reached through the bars of a nearby pen and touched her paw.

Daisy stayed beside him while he played with the toy fish.

On the way home, her carrier felt a little emptier without her favorite toy.

But when she curled up that night, she imagined the kitten carrying it proudly to bed.
