Gracie the Goose and the Muddy Footprints

Chapter 1: Grace

In a green meadow called Willow Bend, there lived a young goose named Gracie. Gracie was cheerful and helpful, and she took great pride in keeping her little home tidy. Every morning, she swept her porch until it shone, and every afternoon, she hung her laundry in neat white rows along the fence.

But Gracie also had a very firm rule: everyone must be careful, and anyone who makes a mess must pay for it.

One breezy morning, Gracie finished washing and hanging her prized white linens, the softest, brightest sheets in all of Willow Bend. She stood back and admired them. "Perfect," she said.

Then she went inside to make tea.

Meanwhile, a little puppy named Pickle came tumbling down the lane, chasing a butterfly. He was new to the meadow, and he was very young, and very muddy from a morning of puddle-jumping.

"Wheee!" he barked, zooming through Gracie's yard. He didn't see the laundry line until...

RIIIP!

Pickle tangled himself in a sheet and pulled the whole line down. White linens tumbled into the dirt, and muddy paw prints stamped across them in every direction.

Pickle froze. His ears flattened. His tail tucked between his legs. "Oh no, oh no, oh no," he whimpered.

Gracie came rushing out with her teacup. When she saw her ruined sheets, she gasped, and her feathers puffed up.
