I moved into my apartment three months ago and, honestly, I thought I had finally found a quiet place to live.

The building was old, but the rent was affordable, the neighborhood was peaceful, and my landlord seemed friendly enough. Nothing about the apartment felt strange until last Tuesday.

I came home from work around 7 PM and noticed a small piece of paper sitting underneath my front door.

At first, I assumed it was an advertisement.

Then I picked it up.

It said:

“Don't answer the door tonight. No matter who it is.”

There was no name.

No explanation.

Just that one sentence.
