Juno and the Map Between the Pages
Chapter 1: A treasure map found in grandfather’s old book
On a rainy Saturday, ten-year-old Juno was helping Grandfather Abel sort through the dusty shelves of his attic study. Boxes of old letters, brass compasses, and tin cans full of buttons crowded every corner.
"Careful with that one," said Grandfather, pointing to a thick, cracked leather book on the bottom shelf. "That's The Voyages of Captain Marlow. I read it so often as a boy that the spine gave up."
Juno lifted it carefully onto her lap. As she turned the pages, something slipped out and fluttered to the floor: a small square of yellowed paper, folded many times.
She unfolded it, and her eyes went wide. It was a hand-drawn map, with a winding river, a crooked mountain, a tiny drawing of the village clock tower, and a large red X in the corner. Along the bottom, in faded ink, were the words:
"The greatest treasure is found by those who are patient, kind, and willing to share."
"Grandfather!" Juno gasped. "A treasure map!"
Grandfather Abel peered at it, and his eyebrows rose. Then a slow, twinkling smile spread across his face. "Well, I'll be. I haven't seen that in sixty years."
"You know about it?"
"I drew it," he chuckled. "When I was about your age, with my best friend Tomas. We hid something special and promised to come back for it together. Then life got busy, and Tomas moved far away. I tucked the map in my favorite book and forgot."
"Then we have to find it!" said Juno, bouncing on her toes.
