More Than Just a Final Project
Chapter 1: A university topper and the class prankster forced to work on a final project.
Sophia Miller was the university's top student. She loved organised notes, perfect grades, and quiet study sessions. Everyone knew she took her education seriously. Then there was Ethan Carter, the class prankster who could turn even the most boring lecture into a comedy show. He was always late, rarely carried a notebook, and somehow managed to make everyone laugh, even when the professor was angry. Sophia considered him the most annoying person on campus.
Their worlds collided when Professor Williams announced the final semester project. Each student would work in pairs, and Sophia's worst nightmare came true when she heard Ethan's name beside hers. "Please tell me this is a joke," she whispered. Ethan leaned back in his chair and smiled. "Don't worry, genius. I'll try not to ruin your perfect record." Sophia rolled her eyes and promised herself she would finish the project without losing her patience.
Their first few meetings were disasters. Ethan arrived late, made silly jokes, and kept distracting her. But slowly, Sophia discovered that beneath his playful personality was someone surprisingly intelligent. He had creative ideas, understood difficult concepts quickly, and knew how to solve problems in ways she had never considered. Ethan also began noticing how much pressure Sophia put on herself. She was always worried about being perfect and rarely allowed herself to enjoy university life.
One evening, they stayed in the library until closing time. Sophia was frustrated because their project wasn't working, and she finally admitted that she was terrified of disappointing everyone. Ethan put down his laptop and looked at her seriously. "You know, you don't have to be perfect all the time. You're allowed to make mistakes." For the first time, Sophia saw a different side of him. He wasn't just the funny boy who disturbed lectures; he was someone who understood her without judging her.
As the days passed, their arguments turned into laughter, their study sessions became something they both looked forward to, and their friendship grew stronger. Ethan started arriving early, while Sophia slowly learned to laugh at his jokes instead of complaining about them. On presentation day, their project received the highest marks in the class. Everyone applauded, and Ethan whispered, "Looks like we're a pretty good team." Sophia smiled and replied, "Unfortunately, I have to agree."
After class, Ethan stopped her outside the university library. For once, he wasn't smiling mischievously. He looked nervous.
"Sophia, I have one more project in mind," he said.
She raised an eyebrow. "What kind of project?"
"Something that involves us spending more time together, even after graduation."
Sophia laughed softly and held out her hand.
