The Room That Still Held Her Name
Chapter 1: The Room Filled With Memories
The first thing everyone noticed about the old bedroom was the smell.
It was not a bad smell. It was the kind of scent that belonged to a place that had been loved for a very long time. A little lavender from the dried flowers sitting in a glass jar by the window. A little dust from books that had not been moved in years. A little wood polish from the small dresser where a woman had kept her jewelry, scarves, and handwritten notes.
The room had belonged to their grandmother.
After she passed away, the family left everything almost exactly as it was. Nobody wanted to be the first person to remove the old blankets or pack away the photographs on the wall. The room was not just a bedroom anymore. It had become a small corner of memory.
For Claire, the oldest daughter in the family, that room meant something even deeper.
She had spent most of her life being the person everyone depended on. Being the oldest child meant learning responsibility before anyone explained it. It meant noticing when her parents were tired, helping younger siblings, and quietly fixing problems before anyone knew they existed.
Claire had always been the reliable one.
When someone needed help, she came.
When someone needed a ride, she answered.
When someone needed advice, she listened.
