Rosie the Rabbit and the Garden of Second Chances
Chapter 1: Forgive
In a green valley called Willowmere, there lived a young rabbit named Rosie. Rosie had soft white fur, a pink nose that twitched when she was thinking, and a little garden behind her burrow where she grew the sweetest carrots in the valley.
She loved that garden more than anything. Every morning, she watered it. Every evening, she pulled the weeds. And every spring, she entered her best carrot in the Willowmere Harvest Fair.
One afternoon, her friend Basil the badger came by to visit. He was big and cheerful, but he was also a little clumsy, and he was always in a hurry.
"Rosie, race you to the pond!" he called.
He bounded across the garden, tail flying, and trampled straight through the carrot patch.
Crunch, squish, snap!
When he reached the pond, he turned around, still laughing. Then his smile faded. Behind him, the neat green rows were flattened. Orange carrots lay broken in the soil.
"Oh no," he whispered. "Rosie, I... I didn't think..."
Rosie stood very still. Her nose stopped twitching. Her eyes grew hot and watery.
"My carrots," she said in a tiny voice. "I worked so hard."
