Ruby the Robin and the Windy Mountain

Chapter 1: Resilience

In a green valley called Willowbrook, there lived a young robin named Ruby. Ruby had bright red feathers, a cheerful song, and one big dream: to fly all the way to the top of Windy Mountain, where the wildflowers bloomed in every color of the rainbow.

"Only the strongest flyers make it up there," her brother Robbie teased. "And you're still just learning."

"I'll make it," said Ruby. "You'll see."

The next morning, Ruby flapped her wings and zoomed into the sky. She soared over the river and past the tall pine trees. But halfway up the mountain, a fierce gust of wind swept her sideways.

WHOOSH!

Ruby tumbled through the air and landed in a thorny bush with a thud. Her feathers were ruffled, and her wing ached.

"Ow," she whispered. Tears pricked her eyes. "Maybe Robbie is right. Maybe I'm not strong enough."

She hopped home with her head low. That evening, she sat on a branch, feeling small.

Grandmother Wren, who lived in the nest next door, fluttered over. "You look like you've had a rough day, dear."

"I tried to reach Windy Mountain, and I failed," Ruby sniffled. "I fell, and it hurt. I think I should give up."
