Tessa the Turtle and the Tiny Garden

Chapter 1: Personal Responsibility

In a sunny valley called Marigold Meadow, there lived a little turtle named Tessa. Tessa was gentle and friendly, and she had one big wish: to grow a garden of her very own.

One spring morning, Mama Turtle handed her a small watering can and a packet of seeds. "Tessa, you're old enough to look after a garden now," she said. "Plant these sunflower seeds, water them, and keep the weeds away. It's your job. Do you think you can do it?"

"Yes, Mama!" cried Tessa. "I promise!"

She dug little holes, dropped in the seeds, and patted the soil gently. She watered them, and for the first few days, she checked on them every morning.

But then her friends came calling.

"Tessa! Come play hide-and-seek!" called Benny the bunny.

"Let's go splash in the pond!" shouted Pip the duckling.

Tessa looked at her garden. She knew she should water the seeds first. But the pond looked so fun.

"I'll water them later," she told herself. "One day won't matter."

But one day became two, and two days became three. Tessa played and played, and the watering can sat forgotten by the fence.
