The Coffee Date That Became a Floor Plan
Chapter 1: Unexpected Love
Phil expected the afternoon to begin with coffee.
Nothing dramatic. Nothing that would one day sound like the opening chapter of a romance novel. Just two people who had spent enough time chatting on OkCupid to become curious about each other in real life.
They had exchanged the usual messages at first—questions about work, favorite places, and how they spent their weekends. Gradually, their conversations became easier. Replies grew longer. Jokes developed. Each notification carried a small sense of anticipation.
Eventually, they agreed to meet.
The plan was simple: Phil would meet J outside an apartment he was viewing, and afterward, they would go somewhere nearby for coffee.
Phil arrived expecting to find him waiting on the sidewalk. Instead, the apartment viewing was still underway.
“You’re early,” J said when he spotted him.
“Or you’re late,” Phil replied.
J smiled. “That’s a strong opening argument for a first date.”
Phil looked toward the building. It was the kind of place that could easily be overlooked—quiet, ordinary, and tucked into the rhythm of the street. There was nothing about it that suggested it would become important to either of them.
