The Garden That Grew Two Ways
Chapter 1: Live In Garden
Maya loved gardens.
Every morning, she walked through her backyard with a little basket in her hands, checking the flowers, watering the plants, and talking to the tiny creatures that visited her garden. To Maya, a garden was not just a place with plants. It was a place where memories grew.
Years ago, when her older daughter Lily was still living at home, the two of them spent hours together planting flowers, painting pots, and watching butterflies dance above the roses. They laughed while their hands were covered in dirt and celebrated every tiny green leaf that appeared.
“Look, Lily!” Maya would say. “A new flower is opening!”
And Lily would smile. “It’s like the garden knows we’re taking care of it.”
Now Lily was older and had moved away to start her own adventure. Maya was proud of her, but she missed their special afternoons together.
Maya still had her younger daughter, Zoe, who was fifteen. She loved Zoe more than anything in the world, but sometimes she felt like they lived in different worlds.
Zoe loved music, video games, drawing characters, and stories filled with fantasy. Maya enjoyed quiet mornings, fresh air, and growing plants. Sometimes Maya would ask Zoe about her favorite games, but she didn’t always understand them. Sometimes Zoe would ask about flowers, but she didn’t always feel interested.
Maya worried that the special connection she had shared with Lily would never happen with Zoe.
“She’s so different from me,” Maya thought.
