The Hotel Room That Stayed Empty
Chapter 1: The Key Card That Held Three Years
The small brass key was still sitting on the kitchen counter three days later.
It was nothing special. Just a little hotel key card holder with a faded blue design and the name of a quiet seaside hotel printed across the front. Most people would have thrown it away after the cancelled trip.
But Daniel kept looking at it.
Every morning, while making coffee, he would see it beside the sugar jar. Every evening, when the sunlight disappeared behind the apartment buildings, he would notice it again.
It was strange how something so small could hold three years of memories.
Three years of late-night conversations.
Three years of walks through quiet streets.
Three years of believing that love meant waiting.
Daniel was twenty-three years old, but the apartment felt older than him. The walls carried the quiet feeling of someone who had recently lost something important. His books were still stacked beside the couch. His jacket was still hanging near the door because he had not found the energy to move it.
The world outside continued normally.
