The Mother Of House

Chapter 1: First Job

Marion accepted a job as a house mother one day before her twenty-fifth birthday. She would live in a large sorority house and help manage the students who lived there.

Marion looked older than her real age because of her simple clothes and quiet personality. During the interview, she claimed she was thirty-five. She believed the board would not hire someone so young for the position.

No one checked her age, education, references, or employment history. This was a serious mistake in the hiring process. Proper background checks are important for college housing, student safety, and responsible property management.

The sorority house belonged to Zeta Tau. It was a beautiful old building with marble floors, large windows, expensive furniture, and a modern kitchen.

The board president gave Marion several keys and explained her basic duties. Marion would order food, work with the cleaning team, manage household problems, and prepare meals for the students.

The students were in class when Marion first entered the house. She slowly walked through every room and studied the photographs on the walls.

One photograph made her uncomfortable. It showed the sorority members from 2003, the year Marion had started college.

Seven years earlier, Marion had tried to join Zeta Tau. She had wanted to become a member more than anything else. However, the group did not accept her. The rejection had stayed in her mind for years.

Now she was finally living inside the same house.

Marion’s private room was small and simple. It had a bed, a desk, a filing cabinet, and a telephone. A gold sign beside the door displayed her name.
