The Strange Wall
Chapter 1: 3:17
The first strange thing about the house was not the locked room.
It was the clock.
Every morning at exactly 3:17, the old wooden clock in the hallway would stop ticking.
No matter how many times Clara repaired it, no matter how carefully she changed the batteries or adjusted the hands, it always stopped at the same time.
3:17.
At first, she thought it was simply an old machine reaching the end of its life. The clock had belonged to the previous owner, an elderly man named Arthur Bell, who had lived in the house for more than fifty years.
Old things broke. That was normal. But the clock did not feel broken. It felt like it was waiting.
Clara noticed this on her third week living there. She was standing in the hallway late at night, holding a cup of tea, listening to the quiet sounds of the house.
The wooden floors creaked. The pipes made soft knocking sounds. The wind moved against the windows, carrying the smell of wet leaves from the garden. Everything about the house felt alive.
Then the clock stopped.
