Wally the Wolf Pup and the Honest Echo

Chapter 1: Honesty means telling the truth, even when it's hard.

In a misty mountain valley called Moonhollow, there lived a young wolf pup named Wally. Wally had silver-gray fur, bright amber eyes, and a very big imagination. He loved telling tall tales, and everyone enjoyed them.

"I once ran faster than the wind!" he would say.

"I once wrestled a bear and won!" he would boast.

Those stories were harmless fun, and the other animals laughed along. But over time, Wally began telling other kinds of stories, ones that weren't meant to be fun at all.

One morning, Wally knocked over Mama Wolf's jar of blueberry jam. It smashed on the floor, sending purple splashes across the kitchen.

Mama rushed in. "Wally! What happened?"

Wally's heart pounded. He didn't want to be scolded. "It was the wind!" he said quickly. "A big gust blew through the window and knocked it right over!"

Mama looked at the closed window. She looked at the jam on Wally's paws. But she only sighed and began to clean up.

A few days later, Wally forgot to finish his chores. When his teacher asked why, he said, "My grandmother was sick, and I had to take care of her." But his grandmother was perfectly healthy.

Another day, he told his friend Dot the rabbit that he had finished building her a toy boat, though he hadn't even started. "It's almost done," he fibbed. "Just wait a little longer."
