The Classroom Next Door
Emma fills her classroom with music and laughter, while Daniel, the teacher next door, prefers quiet lessons and careful plans. Their different teaching…
Two teachers at the same school who clash over teaching styles.
Emma Reed knew two things about the teacher next door: his classroom was always quiet, and hers annoyed him.
Daniel Hayes believed in straight rows, careful notes, and lessons that started exactly on time. Emma believed children learned better when they could ask questions, move around, and occasionally make a little noise. On her first week at Willow Creek School, she taught poetry through music. Daniel appeared in her doorway before the second song.
“Are you teaching English or starting a band?” he asked.
“That depends,” Emma replied. “Can you play anything?”
He walked away without answering, but she caught the small smile he tried to hide.
Their disagreements became a familiar part of school life. He complained about the laughter coming through the wall; she teased him about arranging his pens by colour. Yet Emma began noticing how patiently he helped struggling readers after school. Daniel noticed how the shyest children found the courage to speak in her classroom. Neither mentioned these things to the other.
