Hugo the Hedgehog and the Happiness Lantern
Hugo the hedgehog keeps a list of things he believes will make him happy, and each new thing fades within days, until the village lamplighter stops by.
Gratitude Creates Happiness
In a snug little village called Thistledown, there lived a young hedgehog named Hugo. Hugo had a round tummy, a twitchy nose, and a long list of things he wanted.
"If I had a bigger bed, I'd be happy," he would say.
"If I had a shinier bicycle, I'd be happy."
"If I had a cake with three layers instead of two, then I'd be happy."
But every time he got something new, the happiness faded within a day or two, and his list grew longer. Hugo felt like he was chasing a butterfly that always flew just out of reach.
One gray evening, he sat on his doorstep, chin in his paws. "Why am I never happy for long?" he sighed.
