Olive the Owlet and the Library in the Old Oak

Olive the Owlet and the Library in the Old Oak — story cover

Olive the owlet insists books are boring and prefers chasing moths, until a rainy afternoon with nothing to chase reveals a lit door in the old oak tree.

Books are doors to endless adventures

In a quiet woodland called Hushwillow, there lived a young owlet named Olive. Olive had big round eyes, fluffy gray feathers, and a very busy schedule of doing nothing in particular.

"Books are boring," she would say, flapping past the village reading nook. "Too many words. Too much sitting still."

She preferred chasing moths, racing the wind, and watching the tadpoles in the pond. Whenever her friends said, "Olive, come read with us!" she waved a wing and zoomed away.

One rainy afternoon, however, there was nothing to chase. The moths were hiding, the wind had died, and the pond was a dull gray puddle. Olive sat on her branch with her chin in her wings.

"I'm so bored," she sighed.

Creeeak.
