Zara the Zebra and the Lantern of Many Hands
Zara the zebra has always joined her family's dawn thanks and lantern songs because everyone else does, and now she wants to know what any of it means.
Family’s Faith
In a warm, dusty savanna called Sunset Plains, there lived a young zebra named Zara. Zara had bold black-and-white stripes, a swishing tail, and a very big question that she had been carrying around for days.
"Why do we do all these things?" she asked her mother one evening.
Her family had many special traditions. Every morning, they gathered at the watering hole at dawn to say a quiet thank-you. Every week, they shared a long, slow supper with Grandfather Zebra and told old stories by firelight. Once a year, they walked together to the Great Baobab Tree, where the whole family lit small lanterns and sang songs that had been sung for generations.
Zara had always joined in because everyone else did. But lately she had started wondering what it all meant.
"Sometimes I feel silly," she admitted, "doing things I don't fully understand."
Mama Zebra smiled warmly. She didn't scold or brush the question aside. "That is a wonderful question, Zara. Asking questions is not wrong. Why don't you go and ask Grandfather? He has been walking this path longer than anyone."
