Rory the Raccoon and the Rolling Pebble
Rory the raccoon nudges one small pebble down the hill for fun, and it gathers others until stones crash onto the village footbridge and the brook rises.
Every action, big or small, has consequences that can affect others
In a hilly woodland called Thistle Ridge, there lived a young raccoon named Rory. Rory was clever and curious, and he loved a good bit of fun. But he had one habit: he acted first and thought later.
"It's just a little thing," he would say. "What's the harm?"
One bright morning, Rory climbed to the top of the tallest hill in Thistle Ridge. Below him, the whole village spread out like a picture book. There were cottages with curling smoke, a babbling brook, and a little footbridge where the animals crossed each day.
By his foot sat a small, round pebble.
"I wonder how far it would roll," Rory grinned. He gave it a tiny nudge.
Tick, tick, tick.
